/bin This directory user utilities fundamental to both single-user and multi-user environments
/sbin System programs and administration utilities fundamental to both single-user and multi-user environments
/usr/bin This is the primary directory for executable programs. Common utilities, programming tools, and applications
/usr/sbin This directory contains program binaries for system administration which are not essential for the boot process; system daemons & system utilities (executed by users)
/usr/local/bin Binaries for programs local to the site; local executables
/usr/local/sbin Locally installed programs for system administration.
