Briefly, GhostBSD is a UNIX®-like operating system. It works on AMD64 and Intel® platforms. GhostBSD is based on FreeBSD, which is based on U.C. Berkeley’s “4.4BSD-Lite” release, with some “4.4BSD-Lite2” enhancements. It is also based indirectly on William Jolitz’s port of U.C. Berkeley’s “Net/2” to the i386, known as “386BSD”, though very little of the 386BSD code remains. At this time, GhostBSD provides MATE desktop as default version, and a community release with XFCE desktop.

如何创建 USB 启动盘?[edit]

4.0 版本开始适用于USB闪存驱动器(img镜像)。 从10.1 版本开始,GhostBSD 以 ISO 镜像发布,可在 DVD上刻录,也可刻录在或在闪存驱动器上。 选择喜欢的桌面和对应的架构,下载ISO。 下载完成后,校验镜像(可选),并使用下列方式,将iso写入闪存驱动器。 由于镜像容量高于 2GB,建议闪存容量至少为 4GB。

There's also a good choice to use ddrescue, you can install the software 'gddrescue', then command as follows(need root privileges):

In GhostBSD software can be installed in three different ways:

  • OctoPkg is a GTK+ based tool to manage (search, install and uninstall) binary packages on BSD systems.
  • FreeBSD's package manager PKG can be used to manage packages using the command line. (In versions before 10.x, the old pkg_* tools were used which worked slightly differenty.)
  • FreeBSD Ports is one of the most useful and unique features of FreeBSD compared to most Linux distributions. If installed, it can be found under /usr/ports and contains the Makefiles (think "recipes" if you are new to this concept) used to automatically build (fetch source code, configure, compile, install) a vast amount of software. A menu-driven system allows you to tweak compile options which makes this an easy to use but extremely flexible method of installing software.

GhostBSD 系统下能使用 Linux 软件么?[edit]

GhostBSD 下,我的显卡是否支持 3D 硬件加速 ?[edit]

取决于你的显卡, 想获取 GhostBSD 支持(不一定有).[1]

ATI/Radeon
除非 FreeBSD 完成TTM[2] [3],否则ATIRadeon显卡无法执行 3D 加速。 你仍可以驱动显卡,不过要选择 2D 驱动程序。如果 2D无法启动,则需使用 Vesa 驱动程序。
Intel
在 GhostBSD 系统下,大多数英特尔显卡支持 3D 加速。当前KMS 支持 英特尔显卡, 使用 "sc" 驱动时,不能用( Crtl+Alt+F#) 组合键在图形和文本间切换。
使用 "vt" 控制台驱动程序时,可以在图形和文本控制台之间切换,现在 GhostBSD 默认为 "vt"文本控制台。
Nvidia 显卡:
可以,不过必须加载nvidia-driver[2] 软件安装很容易,如使用 (bxPKG/pkg) 软件管理器 Nvidia 驱动安装上的 ports 包。
